In mid-January, the MSU-Northern Foundation had a visit from Kyle Donoven of Havre who, along with his three sisters, created a scholarship to Northern in memory of their parents. Named the Barry and Diane Memorial Ag Scholarship, the fund will support Northern students who are seeking a degree in agriculture.
Northern Chancellor Greg Kegel was appreciative, saying, “Agriculture is the backbone of our region and this gift will definitely make an impact to our ag students.”
Residents of Kremlin, the elder Donovens were known on the Hi-Line as hard-working and kind-hearted people. In 2017, Diane Donoven, 64, passed away from natural causes and just four years later, almost to the day, her husband, Barry Donoven, 60, passed after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kyle Donoven said that his parents “were generous, and their door was always open.”
Shantel Cronk, executive director of the Foundation, said Donoven’s stories about his parents were bittersweet.
“Diane and Barry would be so proud of their children and the way they are mirroring their generous spirit through this gift,” she said.
