The MSU-Northern Foundation is proud to announce the creation of a new scholarship established by Lisa and Chris Handley in support of the MSU-Northern Skylights Volleyball Team.
Lisa Handley served as Head Volleyball Coach at MSU-Northern from 1999 to 2006, while Chris Handley was the Skylights Golf Coach from 2000 to 2003. Lisa is also an MSU-Northern alumna, having earned her master’s degree from the university. Together, they bring a deep understanding of the student-athlete experience and the qualities that contribute to both individual and team success.
The Wildflowers Scholarship will recognize a non-starter volleyball student-athletes who exemplify a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to being an outstanding teammate, qualities that Lisa and Chris valued throughout their coaching careers.
For MSU-Northern Foundation Managing Director Melanie Skoyen, this scholarship holds special meaning. As a former student-athlete, Skoyen played volleyball under Coach Handley and credits her as a significant influence in her decision to attend MSU-Northern.
“Lisa was truly the reason I chose to come to Northern,” said Skoyen. “The impact she had on my life goes far beyond the game. She believed in me, challenged me, and supported me in ways that helped shape me.”
Skoyen shared that being part of establishing this scholarship alongside the Handleys is especially meaningful. “I am incredibly grateful for the way they took care of me during my time in college and for the role they played in helping me become the woman I am today,” she said.
Lisa and Chris plan to support the Wildflowers Scholarship on an annual basis, creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes who embody the true spirit of Skylight Volleyball.
The MSU-Northern Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Lisa and Chris Handley for their generosity and their continued investment in Northern students.
