Get Involved!

There are many ways to be active with the Foundation. From helping us plant flowers to hosting alumni meetups in your home town, we are always looking for friends and alumni to support our initiatives of community engagement!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with fun things like flipping burgers at a tailgate or decorating a float for a parade!

The FAN club is open to everyone, you do not need to be an alum of Northern to get involved. If you want to meet new people and participate in community events, we are the group for you! We ask that our current FANs invite those who are new to town to our FAN events – we are always looking for help!

This is a fun opportunity to help change campus, show support for students, and meet new people. Throughout the year we host a variety of social and fundraising events. But we also need help with a motley of tasks throughout the year – such as stuffing envelopes, calling our alumni and community partners, making decorations, planting flowers, and many other tasks!

Sign up to volunteer and be sure to check out our EVENTS page for upcoming activities!

Who is an Ambassador?

We need people willing to give us ideas on when or when to host events. The Ambassador could also organize alumni coffee groups or tailgating events. The Foundation will do most of the heavy lifting providing invites, social media posts, and giveaways. You provide the enthusiasm! The ambassador will be the point person for the Foundation in your town. You will help us provide a link for local alumni to connect back to your alma mater.

Goals of an Ambassador

  • Host alumni and Northern supporters at local Foundation events
  • Encourage local students and adults ready to make a career change to see themselves as future graduates of MSU-Northern
  • Promote the MSU-Northern Foundation’s events and initiatives through your social media networks
  • Provide insight on the public’s interest in MSU-Northern and the Foundation’s current campaigns

Common Questions

What's the difference between FANs and Ambassadors? What does the FAN committee do? Can I just volunteer for one event? We try to answer the most common questions here.

Volunteers who join our Friends and Alumni of Northern club are primarily (but not necessarily) locals who want to help us with our events. Ambassadors are alumni or friends of the university who host events on our behalf. Ambassadors are people who want to represent MSU-Northern in their community and advocate for the school and its initiatives. But, Ambassadors are also volunteers!

Absolutely! The events we organize are diverse. What you choose to volunteer for depends on what you feel comfortable doing. Just know that we have TONS of opportunities, from helping at our events to planting flowers in the N.

Our Friends and Alumni of Northern club is open to everyone and it is made up of all our volunteers. The FAN committee plans our events for the year and steer the FAN club activities. Anyone is welcome to join the committee if you are interested in cultivating your leadership and planning skills!

Absolutely! Although our events focus on MSU-Northern and its alumni, we welcome anyone to join us. If you’re just interested in the work that we do (like setting up fundraisers) or would love to spend an afternoon planting flowers, you should join us!
